Correct Lighting Affects the Working Environment

The modern working environment should be safe and ergonomic and beneficial for one's health. The correct lighting contributes to the wellbeing of the worker.  It activates and motivates, it is good for concentration, productivity and safety.

Bad light leads to complaints such as tension, headaches and tired eyes, as the body tries to balance out the unfavourable light.  Proper sight is then often only possible in the wrong sitting position.

What is Proper Lighting?

The basis for proper lighting is a balanced and regulable relationship between daylight, general basic lighting and individual-adjustable lighting conditions in the working environment, e.g. with desk lamps.  It is adapted for the respective seeing tasks, guarantees performance and comfort of the eyes and can be individually adapted for one's needs (working environment regulations for monitor use).

Considering the visual tasks to be done, the illuminance, the required colour temperature/reproduction and the energy efficiency are importance criteria when choosing the most suitable lamp.

The Visual Tasks Determine the Illuminance

Illuminance Lux (lx) has a large influence on how quick, how safe and how easy a visual task can be accomplished by the eyes.  The more difficult the task, the higher the illuminance needed.  Using artificial light, 500 lux are usually enough for writing and reading tasks, for more strenuous tasks or with increasing age more lux are needed.

• Filing, copying, traffic area  -  300 lux
• Writing, typing, reading, data processing  -  500 lux
• Technical drawing  -  750 lux
• CAD - working environment  -  500 lux
• Conference and meeting rooms  -  500 lux

LED Lamps

Energy-saving lamps are due to their light bulbs predestined for illuminating the working environment.  They have a high efficiency factor and a very high life expectancy from up to 15,000 hours.

Electronic Control Gear (ECG)

Lamps that re equipped with an additional electronic control gear ensure an anti-glare light with no flickering.  Moreover the ECG enhances the light efficiency by up to 20% and the life expectancy of the light bulb is enhanced significantly.

Halogen Lamps - Optimal Colour Rendering

The light from halogen light bulbs renders the colours nearly lifelike.  Thereby it is a very good reading light.  The light bulbs have a life expectancy double as long as conventional bulbs, approximately 2,000 hours.  Maul carries a large range of halogen lamps with different efficiency levels and designs.
